This desert canyon boasts a shallow stream which winds through the Galiuro Mountains. The walls of the narrow canyon rise 1,000 feet above the stream bed.  Along the canyon bottom grows sycamore, ash, cottonwood and willow trees. The canyon is also home to over 300 species of wildlife, including mountain lions, desert bighorn sheep, peregrine falcons and nearly every type of desert songbird. Aravaipa’s spectacular scenery and cool water make it one of the most popular hiking destinations in Arizona, but strict permitting regulations keep it from ever being crowded.  Expect to get wet.
