To help you enjoy your RecSPA experience to the fullest, we have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
ATTIRE: Do I have to be completely undressed?
Undress to your level of comfort. For a full body massage, most people leave undergarments on or choose to be fully undressed. The therapist will work around any clothes. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.
DURATION: How long will my massage treatment last?
The massage appointment time begins when the massage therapist starts their assessment. A half hour appointment allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back, or legs and feet. It is possible to do a full body massage in 30 minutes, but it’s not ideal. Many people prefer a 60 to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation.
EXPECTATIONS: What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?
Upon arriving, your massage therapist may require you to fill out a short intake form. Afterward, the therapist will begin by asking you a few general questions to determine: (1) areas of need to be worked on, (2) any conditions to be addressed, and (3) if massage therapy is appropriate for you. Your therapist may also perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition.
Please share all health concerns to assist your therapist in adapting the session to your specific needs. List any allergies in case the therapist needs to select a different oil or lotion during the session.
MY ROLE: What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?
Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants to adjust your position, they will either move you or ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
PRE/POST WORKOUTS: Can I exercise before or after a massage?
Yes. Our massage therapists are experienced to perform massages pre and post workouts. Working out before the massage can even help warm up your muscles and assist with muscle soreness. It is recommended to do only light exercise immediately following a massage, and to wait at least 12-24 hours before your next intense workout to give your muscles time to recover.
POST MASSAGE: How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed after their treatment. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains caused by tension or repetitive activity. It is common to feel slowed downed initially after the massage session, but most people then experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended to drink plenty of water following your massage.
