Registration OPENING SOON!

Experience a wide variety of The University of Arizona’s summer camps with Arizona Youth University (AYU). Our summer enrichment programs offer exciting day camps for children grades 3-8th spanning a range of STEM education subjects. Additionally, we offer several auxiliary programs with focuses ranging from linguistic and cultural studies to academic success to specialized sports training.

Camps are held between 9am - 4pm Monday through Friday, with early drop-off between 7:30-9am and late pick-up between 4-5:30pm (there are no additional fees for this service). All of our programs below will conclude with an Open House where family and friends will be invited to campus to see their student's work (Open Houses are currently hosted at UA main campus programs only). T-shirts and certificates will be provided to all campers!

Robotics 101 - $255

This hands-on camp will introduce students to the exciting field of Robotics. Using the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXTmodular robot system, campers will complete a series of team-based “design, build, and program” challenges including:

·         Construction of LEGO battle bots

·         Designing and building a robot that responds to external stimulus using touch, light, and ultrasonic sensors

·         Designing and building a soccer bot

·         Designing and building an ultrasonic imaging bot

Basic mechanical engineering and programming concepts will be covered throughout the course.

Please note: This program is designed for students who have little to no prior experience in Robotics or Programming.

NASA Rocketry Adventures - $240

Calling all future engineers! In this fun, hands-on camp, students will learn about basic rocketry concepts including Newton’s Laws of Motion and the Engineering Design Process. Campers will compete in a series of team-based design challenges including:

·         Designing and building a functional model Martian buggy

·         Designing and deploying a model satellite that can pass a 1 meter drop test

·         Engineering a prototype Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV)

·         Build and launch simple rockets and more!

Students will learn about various careers and subfields of Engineering.

Please note: this program is designed for students with limited exposure to engineering design.

Bioengineering Boot Camp - $240

Explore the basics of Bioengineering! Through hands-on activities, students will learn how bioengineers combine their knowledge of biology, chemistry and engineering to create solutions to help people live healthier lives. Activities include:

·         Exploring the biology of blood

·         Designing and constructing prosthetic limbs

·         Exploring and modeling human heart valves

·         Developing and testing new methods for mending broken bones

Students will learn about various careers and subfields of Bioengineering.

Introduction to Scratch Coding - $255

Scratch is the perfect project platform designed to introduce beginners to the world of computer programming. Campers will develop a range of coding and problem solving skills including manipulating variables, using operators to manipulate data, and detecting and responding to real-world input.

Scratch is a free program that your child can continue to use in a supervised environment at home with parent permission. We will need to create an account for each child the first day of camp, using the email address of your choice. At drop-off, we will have an email field on the sign-in sheet seeking permission to create an account for your child. At the end of the first day, parents will receive the log-in information.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Academy - $240

Do you want to learn to design bridges? Energy efficient homes?  Develop methods of obtaining clean drinking water? In Civil and Environmental Engineering Academy, student will participate on project-based activities that apply the principals of engineering and biologic sciences to real world problems through hands-on activities including:

·         Exploring the destructive powers of water

·         Designing and building a water filtration system

·         Building a functioning solar water heater

·         Exploring and designing structures to survive natural disasters

·         Designing and building balsa tower and bridge structures

The week will conclude with an Open House where family and friends are invited to campus to view student projects. Camp T-shirts and certificates will be provided.
