03/07/18 White Water Rafting Kern River

A river rafter’s jewel in the heart of Sequoia National Forest, yet only three hours from Los Angeles. With river sections ranging from mild wave trains to wild roller coasters, there is Kern River whitewater rafting fun for everyone, from beginners to experts. While we strive to have all of our trips run, sometimes mother nature has other ideas. We plan trips that historically have run during late February and early May. If there is too much or to little water we will find an alternative river and or cancel the trip.

We prefer participants to be able to swim, especially in high water. Risk is higher for non-swimmers. You must be able to assist in your own rescue in the event you fall out of the boat.

For each level of Preschool Aquatics, our instructors follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills that are developmentally appropriate for young children. Each class is loaded with enjoyable, engaging and challenging activities that motivate children to want to perform and learn to swim! It’s common for children to participate in several sessions before they are able to successfully demonstrate all the skills. That’s okay!

In Preschool Level 3, our instructors follow a plan that puts the “fun” in fundamentals. Some milestones in PSL3 include:

  • Rolling to back, floating for 5 seconds then recovering to a vertical position
  • Swimming using combined arm and leg actions on front for 3 body lengths
  • Rolling to front then continuing to swim on front for 3 body lengths

AquaCub swimming lessons include a variety of activities including direct and indirect teaching techniques.  Each 30-minute lesson can be observed to include the following components:

  • Welcome & Water Safety topic
  • Water Warm-up
  • Review Skills- taught through games and drills
