classics camp 2018

Have you ever wanted to be a gladiator, an archeologist, or a mythical creature? Then come to Mt. Olympus and experience the glories of two of the world's greatest and most influential cultures! This camp introduces middle- and high-school students to many different aspects of Greek and Roman antiquity, including classical Latin, ancient Greek, mythology, food, art, and history. Students will decorate their own Greek vases, excavate for buried archaeological remains, create illuminated manuscripts, design mosaics, and learn Greek and Latin etymologies. There will be numerous field trips, including tours of museum collections and a private viewing of the unique manuscripts in the Special Collections wing of the UA Library. Campers can bring their own lunch or buy it under supervision at the Student Union; except for the last day of camp when there will be an archeological excavation and Roman banquet! T-shirts and certificates will be provided.

Camp Scrubs: Grades 7-8

Do you have a middle school student interested in science, technology, or math? Are they interested in teaching or helping others? Nursing may be their career path! Registered Nurses provide care for patients in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, homes, clinics, helicopters, planes, and in disaster locations. Nurses are always in demand and have opportunities to work anywhere in the country. Join Banner University Medical Center - Tucson Campus for Camp Scrubs, a week-long look at the many roles in which nurses function while caring for patients. Campers will shadow nurses on patient care units and learn about the important work nurses do. They will learn first-aid skills and become certified in CPR. What an exciting way to spend a summer week!

introduction to scratch coding

Scratch is the perfect project platform designed to introduce beginners to the world of computer programming. Campers will develop a range of coding and problem solving skills including manipulating variables, using operators to manipulate data, and detecting and responding to real-world input.

Scratch is a free program that your child can continue to use in a supervised environment at home with parent permission. We will need to create an account for each child the first day of camp, using the email address of your choice. At drop-off, we will have an email field on the sign-in sheet seeking permission to create an account for your child. At the end of the first day, parents will receive the log-in information.
