3/16/18 Rafting: Salt River Overnight
This trip is so long we couldn't fit it in one day! We'll leave the evening before to camp just above the rapids. The next day we will run the day section of the Salt River located inside the White Mountain Apache Tribe lands north of Globe, AZ. Depending on river levels, we may even get two runs in (fingers crossed).
Must attend Pre-Trip meeting on March 14, 2018 at 7:00PM inside Outdoor Rec
Participants should be strong swimmers but need no experience in whitewater.
4/13/18 Canoeing: Gila Box
This 23-mile canoe trip will take us down the Gila River through the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area. Designated a Riparian National Conservation Area in 1990, the Gila Box preserves pristine corridors of four perennial water sources: the Gila River, the San Francisco River, Eagle Creek and Bonita Creek. The Gila River in this section is narrow and winding, with rocky shoals, quick moving chutes, and small wave trains, making it a perfect spot to learn whitewater canoeing.
Must attend Pre-Trip meeting on April 11th, 2018 at 7:00 inside Outdoor Rec.
Participants should few comfortable swimming in Class II Rapids.
6/15/18 Canoeing: Lake Apache
Apache Lake is the quietest lake in the Salt River reservoir chain of lakes, but boasts some of the most spectacular scenery! It is an excellent place to paddle, hike, and explore. On this trip we will be camping each night on the banks of the lake, enjoying the all the beauties of the backcountry with ease. This trip is why expeditioning by canoe has been a transportation of choice by humans for tens of thousands of years—it’s efficient, fun, and easy to bring all your stuff with you!
