The REC and REC pool will open late at 10a on Saturday, Sept. 25 due to a staff training. NorthREC will open at its regular Saturday time of 8a.
Looking to become a lifeguard? Then this is the course for you!
Successful completion of the Lifeguard Training Course results in a 2-year Lifeguarding certification through the American Red Cross that includes lifeguard water skills, first aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer all in one certificate. Digital certificates are available upon successful completion of course. Through videos, group discussion, and hands-on practice, participants learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED, and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. Skill sessions of this course will be situated in various locations on the pool, pool deck and classroom settings.
No refunds will be offered once registration has been processed. There will be a $15 transfer fee to switch courses if available.
This course is in a Blended Learning format which combines online learning with classroom training. Participants who register for these classes must complete all online materials before the classroom portion of the class in order to complete the course. The online training portion will be emailed to participants via the email included with registration prior to the start of the course from CREC-Aquatics@email.arizona.edu(link sends e-mail).
If you would like to access the Blended Learning prior to the week of the course date you can complete the Lifeguarding Blended Learning prior to our team sending out the information.

Be able to perform the following skills on the first day of the course to continue with the training:
1. Continuously swim 300 yards (12 laps) using a combination of freestyle & breaststroke.
2. Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10lb brick from a depth of 10ft, return to the starting point with brick held at the water surface and exit pool (max time 1 minute 40 seconds).
3. Tread water without using hands for 2 minutes.
Additionally, all participants must be 15 years old by the last day of the scheduled session.
