What are Certifications?

Through the American Red Cross, Campus Recreation offers certification courses in CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, Instructor Certifications and more. Our Aquatics staff are here to help you become knowledgeable, prepared, and ready for any emergency that may come your way.

CPR/AED

This hands-on skills training prepares students to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. It also teaches the skills and knowledge needed to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

First Aid

The purpose of this course is to help participants identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in their environment, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care.  It teaches skills that participants need to know in order to provide immediate care of a suddenly ill or injured person until more advanced medical care arrives.

Lifeguarding

Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard.  Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming requirements.
