Rec Cat Race Club: Lighting of the "A" Virtual Fun 5K!

Run, walk, or jog your way through 3.10686 miles (5K), all at once or throughout the week to celebrate Homecoming! Even though we cannot gather to watch the Lighting of "A" Mountain together, we can still be active to celebrate and watch privately. We will be giving prizes for best run time, most spirited (UArizona gear), best reunion, and top running duo (4 legged friends are eligible). Track your progress through the Rec Cat Race Club's Strava app (see instructions on how to join below) and label your runs “homecoming 5K” or “lighting of “A” Mountain 5K”. Post your pictures in the discussion board to participate in the most spirited, best reunion, and top running duo! The opportunity to run the 5K starts on November 8 at 6 a.m. and will be finished on November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Have fun, stay safe, Bear Down, and mask up Wildcats!

How to Join the Club and Get the Strava App

Strava is a mobile app that uses GPS data from an Apple Watch or like device to record your running/walking workouts. With the app you can join the Rec Cat Race Club to track your distance for events and challenges!

Download the free Strava version from the Apple App Store or Google Android Play Store.

After downloading the free Strava app, create a personal account, either by connecting to your existing Facebook, Google, or Apple account, or by signing up with your email and a password.

Sign up for the Rec Cat Race Club on Strava to keep track of your distance in events and challanges and connect with other University of Arizona community runners and walkers. 

To join the Rec Cat Race Club on a desktop computer:

  1. Visit https://www.strava.com/clubs/669319
  2. Click “Join Club”

To join the Rec Cat Club on the Strava app:

  1. Open and log in to your Strava mobile app
  2. Click “Explore” on the bottom menu bar
  3. Click “Clubs” near the top of the screen
  4. Type “UAZ Rec Cat Race Club” in the search bar
  5. Click on the “UAZ Rec Cat Race Club"
  6. Click “Join”

Record every Run/Walk and label your runs for specific events and challenges to participate!

  1. Open your Strava app and click “Record” on the bottom menu bar
  2. Choose the appropriate sport (Run, Walk)
  3. Click “Start” to begin recording your workout.
  4. At the end of your run, click the stop button, then click “Finish” and “Save Activity”.  Option to add other details about your workout if you would like as well.
  5. Workouts will automatically be recorded in the Club leaderboard and count towards University of Arizona’s Rec Cat Race club total mileage in the Lighting of "A" Virtual Fun 5K!

No phone with you for a workout, or forget to hit the start button?  No problem.  Manually input your workouts to keep an accurate record of your distance:

  1. Open your Strava app and click the plus sign with a circle in the top left corner
  2. Click “Manual Activity”
  3. Fill out the details of your workout
  4. Click “Save Activity”
