Job Description

This position requires extensive knowledge of the Department of Campus Recreation Aquatics program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising student staff, maintaining a high standard of customer service, risk management, professionalism and respect. Use problem solving skills and delegate duties as needed to maintain a safe and effective environment for participants and staff. Must enforce the Department of Campus Recreation & Campus Rec pool policies and procedures; additional duties may involve assistance with special events, swim lessons and health and safety class instruction.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Attend staff meetings and trainings, including but not limited to:

                *All Staff Training (Fall and Spring Semester)

                *Mandatory Supervisor trainings offered throughout the year

                *Position specific meetings

-Participation in Student Staff Advisory Committee (50% attendance at meetings and events held throughout the year required)

-Model department values and expectations

-Stay proficient in all American Red Cross rescue techniques

-Take preventative action for hazards and injuries that may take place in the pool or on the pool deck

-In the event of an emergency, activate the Emergency Action Plan. Administer First Aid and/or CPR as needed

-Special projects as assigned 

 

Requirements

 -Active employment as a Campus Recreation Lifeguard for a minimum of 3 months prior to applying

-Outstanding leadership, supervisory, customer service, and communication skills

 -Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment is contingent on enrollment)

 -Possession of current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification

 -Early morning, evening, and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability

 

Required Trainings/Certifications

 

The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:

 

-Valid CPR-PR/AED and First Aid Certification from the American Red Cross is required within 45 days of hire; Campus Recreation will cover the cost of select certification classes for eligible employees. Check with your supervisor prior to obtaining these certifications.

 

-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.

-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, and Youth Safety Training within 45 days of hire.
