Job Description

Perform a variety of duties to support the Youth Program Area of Campus Recreation. Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the “A” camp environment.  This position requires transporting campers throughout the facility and maintaining communication with all areas of camp in addition to all departments within the facility that interact with “A” Camp.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising student staff, providing excellent customer service, addressing patron, spectators and/or employee issues and/or concerns as needed and respond to any situation that may arise.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Attend staff meetings and trainings, including but not limited to:

                *All Staff Training (Fall and Spring Semester)

                *Position specific meetings

-Model department values and expectations

-Enforce staff adherence to department values and expectations, provide coaching and feedback for improvements and implement “feedback forms”

-Assist with counselor training and creating the agenda/activities for the weekly meetings

-Open camp in the morning (7am – 12:30pm) or close camp in the afternoon (12:15pm – 5:45pm), performing duties which include but are not limited to: checking out/returning keys, overseeing the set-up/storage of camp equipment, completing counselor assignments for the shift, maintaining the integrity of the facility/camp programs through continual communication with the Facility staff and Camp Administration

-Greet new campers on Monday mornings and help them get acclimated to the camp environment

-Address parent questions during drop-off and pick-up

-Review camp rules and the pool rules with the campers as a whole on Mondays

-Coordinate “A” Camp logistics, including moving individual campers or small groups throughout the facility, across campus or to off-campus facilities for specialized events or activities

-Handle scheduling issues such as late arrivals, no shows or illnesses, fill in where appropriate or find substitutes

-Maintain communication with field trip groups as well as other areas within the facility

-Act as the next step in the disciplinary process, including potentially contacting parents to remove their camper for the day, if necessary

-Retain knowledge of the schedule and any special events in order to keep camp running smoothly

-Complete special projects as assigned



Requirements

-Excellent customer service skills

-Previous Campus Recreation experience with an exemplary employment record

-Must possess outstanding leadership, supervisory, customer service and communication skills

-Demonstrates proficiency with attention grabbers, camp games, child management and discipline techniques

-Excellent time management skills

-Strong ability to respond to accidents, injuries and enact the Emergency Action Plan

-Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment contingent on enrollment)

-Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability


Required Trainings/Certifications

The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:

 

-Mandatory Camp Supervisor training between supervisor hire date and the start of camp

 

-American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED certification within 45 days of hire and renew every two years.

 

-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.

 

-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized), Youth Safety Training, and HIPAA within 45 days of hire.
