Job Description

Perform a variety of duties to support the Fitness & Wellness program of Campus Recreation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the administration and operation of the Fitness & Wellness program and staff. This may include personal training, group fitness, wellness, and weight room. Maintain a high level of motivation and customer service in the scope of Fitness & Wellness program policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
-Attend staff meetings and trainings, including but not limited to:
*All Staff Training (Fall and Spring Semester)
*Mandatory Supervisor trainings offered throughout the year
*Position specific meetings
-Model department values and expectations
-Knowledgeably explain Campus Recreation policies and procedures
-Assist with: planning, promoting and implementing Fitness & Wellness programs and workshops, fitness center operations and special events, recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, supervision, social media management, evaluation and retention of Fitness & Wellness program staff
-Instruct group fitness classes and conduct personal training sessions as needed
-Sub Fitness & Wellness programs and weight room shifts as needed
-Assist in enforcing that staff adhere to department values and expectations, provide coaching and feedback for improvements, and implement “feedback forms”
-Draft staff evaluations for review and assist with select performance reviews
-Complete special projects as assigned
Requirements
-Certified as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor through ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA or other certification deemed acceptable by Department of Campus Recreation Fitness & Wellness administrators within six months.
-Excellent customer service skills
-Detail oriented and self-motivated
-Demonstrated relevant experience in fitness, preferably in personal training and/or group fitness instruction
-Previous fitness experience in a leadership role with an exemplary employment record
-Proficient knowledge in Campus Recreation policies and procedures
-Must possess outstanding leadership, supervisory, customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
-Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability
-Must be enrolled at UArizona for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment contingent on enrollment)
Required Trainings/Certifications
The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:
-Valid Adult CPR/AED and First Aid Certification from an approved provider (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute) are required within 30 days of hire; Employees are required to obtain these certifications at their own expense. Campus Recreation offers a discount on certification classes for eligible employees. Other certifications may be considered. Check with your supervisor prior to making arrangements to obtain these certifications.
-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.
-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized), and Youth Safety Training within 45 days.
