Job Description

Perform a variety of duties to support the Department of Campus Recreation Intramural program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to understanding and enforcing all game rules; assists the Intramural Sports Supervisors and Sport Programs Coordinators in supervising intramural sports activities and supervise the on-site safety of intramural participants and spectators. Intramural Sports Officials have a varied work schedule including day, evening and weekend hours.  

Duties & Responsibilities

-Attend staff meetings and trainings

-Model department values and expectations

-Control all game situations, which might occur during intramural team activities

-Understand and enforce all game rules, including the spirit of the rules

-Attain a passing score on all officiating exams

-Prevent/mediate/resolve protests, conflicts, and disputes which arise during the game

-Ensure that no participants are wearing illegal equipment

-Ensure team managers accurately complete team line-up cards and verify participant eligibility

-Complete and submit all scorecards to Intramural Sports Supervisor at the end of each game

-Provide a written report on all incidents, disputes, protests, fights, and ejections

-Wear the appropriate officiating attire to all games scheduled   

-Prepare activity site by setting up/taking down any necessary equipment

-Ensure sportsmanlike conduct of participants and spectators

-Enforce all stated and implied Intramural policies concerning participants and spectators   

-Perform emergency procedures as qualified. 

-Provide public relations for the intramural sports program

-Communicate and interact with a culturally and behaviorally diverse campus population

-Special projects as assigned

Requirements

-Excellent customer service skills

-Possess technical and detailed knowledge of game rules and officiating techniques

-Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment contingent on enrollment)

-Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability


 

Required Trainings/Certifications

The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:

-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis. Training is available online at http://risk.arizona.edu/training/index.shtml

-Complete Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness.
