Job Description

Perform a variety of duties to support the Department of Campus Recreation Fitness program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting individual and group personal training sessions in a dynamic, safe, and constructive manner; maintain a high level of motivation and control in classes while exhibiting friendly, kind, energetic, outgoing and enthusiastic qualities. 

Personal Trainers must perform within certification and/or training standards and/or Code of Ethics and demonstrate a professional appearance and demeanor both on and off campus that favorably represents the University of Arizona and the department of Campus Recreation. Personal Trainers are responsible for coverage of scheduled classes. Canceled classes must be made-up.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Attend staff/instructor meetings and trainings

-Model department values and expectations

-Perform testing protocols, e.g., body composition, sit and reach blood pressure, etc.

-Demonstrate and teach proper lifting mechanics and exercise principles

-Be prepared for EVERY class with appropriate format lesson plans and arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class

-Confirm class attendees are registered for class and appear on the roster; inform participants in regards to canceled or make-up classes

-Special projects as assigned

Requirements

-Excellent customer service skills

-Detail oriented and self-motivated

-Current personal trainer certification from a nationally recognized organization

-Personal fitness level which enables the employee to perform activity without risk to her/himself or risk to the participant

-Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment contingent on enrollment)

-Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability

Required Trainings/Certifications

-Personal Trainers may be required to audition for the hiring supervisor and/or selected committee; exceptions may apply.

 

The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:

-American Red Cross Adult First Aid CPR/AED certification within 45 days of hire and renew every two years.  

-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.

-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized), and Youth Safety Training within 45 days of hire.
