Job Description: 

Perform a variety of duties to support the Department of Campus Recreation Intramural program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to understanding and enforcing all game rules; assist the Intramural Sports Supervisors/Coordinator in supervising intramural sports activities and supervise the on-site safety of intramural participants and spectators. Intramural Sports Officials have a varied work schedule including day, evening and weekend hours.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

-Attend staff meetings and trainings

-Model department values and expectations

-Control all game situations, which might occur during intramural team activities

-Understand and enforce all game rules, including the spirit of the rules

-Attain a score of at least 80% on all officiating exams

-Prevent/mediate/resolve protests, conflicts, and disputes which arise during the game

-Ensure that no participants are wearing illegal equipment

-Ensure team managers accurately complete team line-up cards and verify participant eligibility

-Complete and submit all scorecards to Intramural Sports Supervisor at the end of each game

-Provide a written report on all incidents, disputes, protests, fights, and ejections

-Wear the appropriate officiating attire to all games scheduled   

-Prepare activity site by setting up/taking down any necessary equipment

-Ensure sportsmanlike conduct of participants and spectators

-Enforce all stated and implied Intramural policies concerning participants and spectators   

-Perform emergency procedures as qualified. 

-Provide public relations for the intramural sports program

-Look for any unsafe conditions or opportunities to improve operations. Pass feedback to department administration.

-Special projects as assigned

Training and Certifications Required: 

The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:

-Valid CPR-PR/AED and First Aid Certification from an approved provider (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute) are required within 30 days of hire; Employees are required to obtain these certifications at their own expense. Campus Recreation offers a discount on certification classes for eligible employees. Other certifications may be considered. Check with your supervisor prior to making arrangements to obtain these certifications.

-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.

-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, and Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized)  

Required Qualifications: 

-Excellent customer service skills

-Possess technical and detailed knowledge of game rules and officiating techniques

-Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment contingent on enrollment)

-Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break availability
