Arizona Youth University is a summer enrichment program offering challenging and exciting day camps for students going into first grade through their senior year of high school. These interactive camps are facilitated by professional educators paired with University of Arizona students majoring in the respective field, and students receive enhanced learning opportunities in a fun environment. Camps primarily focus on engineering, healthcare, architecture, forensics, web development and art, as well as academic reinforcement such as ACT and SAT prep courses. NEW Camp Offerings:
- Engineering Expo $240/$260 - Not quite sure what field of engineering you’re interested in? Campers have the opportunity to explore various fields while interacting with engineering students and staff, and working together on group projects throughout the week. Curriculum will introduce the basics of bioengineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering and chemical engineering through class discussions and hands-on activities. Students also participate in traditional camp recreational and social activities.
- CSI Junior $240/$260 - Learn a variety of basic forensic science techniques, like lifting prints from surfaces, making castings of footprints, finger printing, and more! For the final project, students are presented with a mock crime scene and must use their newly acquired forensic skills to solve the case by collecting evidence, looking for fingerprints and other organic clues, studying the location and disposition of evidence, and interviewing suspects. Designed for beginners interested in science and learning more about crime scene investigation.
- Mixed Media Madness $240/$260 - Let’s mix it up! Join UA art students and professional educators as you discover your inner artist through drawing, painting, collage, and paper mache to create unique masterpieces. Students will utilize a variety of materials and learn new methods and techniques for creating and experimenting with combinations of materials.
- Web Development and Design $240/$260 - Campers will design a website built around an area of interest they choose (a restaurant, business venture, a favorite hobby or sport, etc.). Instruction covers basic components such as themes, text and graphics. Once the layout and concept is established, they will be introduced to coding in HTML to make desired edits to optimize for computers, phones and tablet. Campers work with graphics, fonts, page layouts, and plugins to further customize and enhance the functionality of their website!
AYU Partner Camps
Camp Architecture - $375
Camp Architecture is a specially designed five-day summer camp geared toward students interested in the field of architecture. Participants learn to draw by hand and on the computer, construct models in the CAPLA Materials Lab, test structural models, and learn about careers in sustainability and in the design field. Led by registered architect and CAPLA faculty member Valerie Lane; this camp offers aspiring young architects a unique glimpse into the world of design. At Camp Architecture, young scholars work with practicing architects and architecture students, they’ll learn to use real tools, work with real materials, and experience real buildings. Designed for middle school and high school students, each session is a sequence of highly orchestrated workshops. Returning campers are welcome and will be offered a unique experience that immerses them further into the design process. 25% discount for UA Faculty and Staff. Camp Scrubs - $400
Do you have a middle school student interested in science, or technology? Are they interested in teaching or helping others? Nursing may be their career path! Registered Nurses provide care for patients in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, homes, clinics, helicopter
s, planes, and in disaster locations. Nurses have opportunities to work anywhere in the country. Join Banner University Medical Center for Camp Scrubs, a week long look at the many roles in which nurses function while caring for patients. Campers will shadow nurses on patient care units and learn about the important work nurses do. They will also spend time with many departments and professionals that work with, and support nursing to provide care. Campers will complete the week with an understanding of the important role of each member of the healthcare team. They will learn first-aid skills and become certified in CPR. This year camp will be following the grand opening of our beautiful, brand new hospital tower! What an exciting way to spend a summer week! Enrollment limited to 20 campers.
SAT Prep Course - $350
Gain a competitive edge in the college admissions and scholarship processes by learning key test-taking strategies and reviewing required content knowledge for the SAT. This course begins with students taking a pre-test to assess exam strengths and weaknesses, continues with 20 hours of instruction on the Writing and Language, Reading, Essay, and Mathematics sections of the SAT, and culminates with a post-test. Our instructors offer daily office hours and are available to work one-on-one with students who would like additional review. The course fee includes the textbook and all supplementary materials. This course is offered in conjunction with THINK TANK at the University of Arizona, which provides academic support services for UA students.
ACT Prep Course - $350
