Campus Recreation strives to provide employees with quality job training as well as life skills for future career success. Employees of our department receive over 40 hours of training and professional development opportunities each year. Due to this, Campus Recreation student employees top the charts in innovation, professionalism, respect, community and integrity! Based on a Spring 2017 survey to all Campus Rec student employees, results indicated the following on career readiness, academic success, and persistence decisions:
- 57% indicated their employment helped them acquire job-search techniques
- 66% indicated their employment helped them gain career-applicable job skills
- 69% indicated that their employment positively impacted their academic success
- 61% indicated that their employment impacted their decision to continue their education at the UA
Below is information regarding Campus Recreation's efforts in continuing growth in student development at the University of Arizona.
Any non-professional staff member, who best exemplifies the department values can be nominated on a monthly basis to receive a value award. Recipients are selected based off of nominations from their supervisors, peers, and patrons of Campus Recreation.
All Value Award Recipients are recognized at the End of Year Celebration, attend a lunch with the director, and are nominated for the Juliette Moore Scholarship.
Campus Rec recognizes the significant roles that our students play, and aims to support them as the future leaders in our communities. There are several scholarships awarded to our top students to help them achieve their academic goals as well as provide valuable work experiences for future career success.
At the beginning of each semester, all Campus Recreation staff members are required to complete specific job training. Session topics include emergency preparedness, customer service, staff management and leadership trainings.
Student staff are encouraged to pursue higher certifications and attend conferences and workshops that will improve their job performance here at Campus Rec. Each quarter, Campus Recreation awards $400 to students who apply for reimbursement for professional development related to their current position.
