Overnight Trips & Spring Break

Join Outdoor Rec on one our guided overnight trips to a beautiful natural area. All gear, transportation, instruction, and food are included.

Mount Lemmon is considered the world’s hidden gem for all things climbing and canyoneering. Join us for this exciting and adventurous weekend exploring two of the best experiences on the mountain: canyoneering at Seven Cataracts and climbing at Windy Point! Seven Cataracts is a series of rappels down five waterfalls: its super picturesque and thrilling! Windy Point climbing overlooks the entire Catalina Highway and is a great introduction to outdoor climbing. Friday night, we'll drive up the mountain and camp. The next day we'll start our canyoneering adventure, and the day after that will be climbing. At the end of each day, we’ll hang out around the fire while camping on the mountain. All instruction, gear, transportation, and food is included with this trip, so we encourage first-time adventurers to step outside their comfort zone.

The Santa Catalina Mountains are one of the most unique and beautiful backpacking destinations in the country, with nearly 20 miles of remote hiking through the mountains over the course of around 2 and a half days.

On this Outdoor Rec trip we will be utilizing a variety of lightweight equipment and techniques to keep our pack weight as low as possible, giving us more time and energy to explore the mountain.

This trip is a great introduction to the sport of backpacking as well as a wonderful journey to a spectacular destination.

Our journey begins with a day of scenic travel to the northwestern corner of the state where the Colorado River divides Arizona and Nevada. In canoes, we will paddle an 11-mile stretch of the river through Black Canyon, an area that boasts prime canoeing on mellow waters.  This section of the Colorado River is directly downstream from Hoover Dam.  We will paddle downstream to explore the area, possibly visiting hot springs, a sauna cave and a rain cave, as well as many side canyons. We will use wilderness campsites along the river during our paddle days, and an improved campsite the first night.

This trip is over the first part of Spring Break, from March 3rd-6th.

All instructions, transportation, and group equipment provided to include backpacks, and sleeping system. Meals in the field are included as well. Personal equipment such as rain jackets, and footwear not included.

Prerequisites

Canoeing offers high participation since only two people travel in each canoe.  Paddling instructions will be given during the trip, however canoeing can be very strenuous so good physical condition is required to enjoy the trip.
