Job Description

Perform a variety of duties to support the Department of Campus Recreation Aquatics program.  Responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons while instructing dynamic, safe and constructive classes.  Maintain a high level of motivation and control in classes while exhibiting friendly, kind, energetic, outgoing and enthusiastic qualities. 

Instructors must perform within certification and/or training standards and/or Code of Ethics and demonstrate a professional appearance and demeanor both on and off campus that favorably represents the University of Arizona and the department of Campus Recreation.  Instructors are responsible for coverage of scheduled classes. Cancelled classes must be made-up.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Attend staff/instructor meetings and trainings

-Model department values and expectations

-Be prepared for EVERY class with appropriate format lesson plans and arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class

-Confirm class attendees are registered for class and appear on the roster

-Stay proficient in all American Red Cross rescue techniques

-Take preventative action for hazards and injuries that may take place in the pool or on the pool deck

-In the event of an emergency, activate the Emergency Action Plan. Administer First Aid and/or CPR as needed

-Special projects as assigne

Requirements

-Excellent customer service skills

-Outstanding leadership, supervisory, customer service, and communication skills

-Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment is contingent on enrollment)

-Early morning, evening and weekend availability; flexible scheduling and break 

Required Trainings/Certifications

-Aquatic Instructors may be required to audition for the hiring supervisor and/or selected committee; exceptions may apply.

 

The successful incumbent is preferred to have the following certifications and training:

-American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI).

-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.

-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized), and Youth Safety Training within 45 days of hire.
