Campus REC offers American Red Cross courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation - better known as CPR, first aid, automated external defibrillation (AED) and both lifeguard and water safety preparation.
Courses are open to students, faculty, staff and all members of the Tucson community.

ADULT FIRST AID/CPR/AED
Earn your Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification from an American Red Cross certified instructor. Good for two years, this certification meets OSHA guidelines and utilizes the latest in a game-changing educational model incorporating science-based advancements in lifesaving care.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be able to:
- recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for victims about 12 years and older
- identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in the environment, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for care
- create initial impressions needed in order to provide immediate care of a suddenly ill or injured person until more advanced medical care arrives
- take basic disease transmission precautions, recognize and care for bleeding, wounds, and sudden illness
- perform immobilization methods for muscle, bone and joint injuries.

Blended learning format: online training, classroom, lecture and hands-on practice. Approximately 2 hours of online training must be completed before the 2 hours of classroom, lecture and hands-on practice begins.

ADULT AND PEDIATRIC FIRST AID/CPR/AED
Whether you need OSHA compliant training to satisfy an job requirement or you just want to know how to keep your loved ones safe, students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be able to:
- recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for victims - adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age)

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
Consistent with the AHA Guidelines for CPR/ECC, BLS is the foundational CPR/AED program typically required for healthcare providers and public safety professionals. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a 2-year Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer Certification through the American Red Cross.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be able to:
- respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult, child and infant patients
- builds the key critical thinking, problem solving, and team dynamic skills that are needed to drive better patient outcomes
- creating initial impressions needed in order to provide immediate care of a suddenly ill or injured person until more advanced medical care arrives

FIRST AID/CPR/AED INSTRUCTOR
Becoming a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor is a fulfilling and rewarding experience. Instructors are a highly trained, elite group of professionals teaching valuable, lifesaving skills.

- train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid CPR and AED courses

LIFEGUARD
Earn your certification and respond to water emergencies with American Red Cross lifeguard training. Students will receive the latest science-based training from experienced instructors and develop skills they'll use for a lifetime.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be able to:
- prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over

LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION
Lifeguard recertification can be achieved by enrolling in this blended learning course to refresh your knowledge and skills and update your certification for another two years.

BABYSITTERS BASICS
Designed for new babysitters and youth ages 11 and older, this online course delivers information clearly, concisely and interactively – and it's the perfect way for young people to learn about all of the responsibilities that come with the job.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be able to:
- provide care for infants and children; how to stay safe; what to do in an emergency; how to choose age-appropriate activities; and how to recognize and handle a variety of behaviors
- understand the basics of starting a babysitting business

CAT AND DOG FIRST AID
Every owner loves their pets and wants to give them the best life possible; being equipped to deliver first aid and provide a healthy lifestyle is the best way to do that. Now cat and dog owners, pet-sitters and dog walkers can take the Red Cross Cat and Dog First Aid online course and learn life-saving skills for their animals.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be able to:
- providing first aid care for your cat or dog, and will learn how to best give care for common emergency situations
- understanding your pet's vital signs, breathing and cardiac emergencies, wounds and bleeding, seizures, and preventative care for cats and dogs
