AYU Camp Instructor
-Attend staff meetings and trainings
-Model department values and expectations
-General supervision of campers to include implementing program curriculum, facilitating program rules, regulations, and safety concerns
-Direct the group’s daily activity schedule to include greeting and supervision of campers during drop-off, escorting campers to and from each activity session, and supervision of campers awaiting pick-up by parents
-Assist in the facilitation and implementation of daily activities
-Active participation with campers during each session
-Attend to all injuries and illnesses and follow proper protocol
-Assist parents with inquiries regarding the program
-Assist in set-up and take-down of scheduled camp activities
-Supervise and care for groups of campers both at Campus Recreation and other locations throughout U of A
-Implement program curriculum, facilitate program rules, regulations, and safety concerns
-Notify program directors of any problems to assist in providing a positive camp experience
-Reinforce camp rules and manage behavioral issues according to camp protocol
-In the event of an emergency, activate the Emergency Action Plan. Administer First Aid and/or CPR as needed
-Excellent customer service skills
-Prior experience working with school aged children
-At least 18 years or older
-Must be enrolled at UA for a minimum of 6 credit hours (employment contingent on enrollment)
-Ability to commit to a Monday-Friday schedule, working 9:00AM – 4:00PM daily for a period of six weeks
Preferred Qualifications *
• Current College of Education undergraduate student OR major in STEM related discipline
• Familiarity with basic principles of Engineering Design, Bioengineering or Robotics
• Demonstrated love of learning and enthusiasm for working with children
• Excellent classroom management skills
The successful incumbent is required to have the following certifications and training:
-Mandatory Camp Instructor training between hire date and the start of camp
-Valid CPR-PR/AED and First Aid Certification from an approved provider (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute) are required within 45 days of hire; Employees are required to obtain these certifications at their own expense. Campus Recreation offers a discount on certification classes for eligible employees. Other certifications may be considered. Check with your supervisor prior to making arrangements to obtain these certifications.
-All Department of Campus Recreation employees are required to complete blood borne pathogen training within 45 days of hire and renew on an annual basis.
-Complete New Employee training which includes but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy training, All-Employee Security (Computer) Awareness, Online Driver Registration & Golf Cart (if authorized), and Youth Safety Training within 45 days of hire.
