Intramural vs Club Sports: what’s the difference?
Got game? Want to play? Take advantage of all that Campus REC has to offer...and there’s a lot of choices.
You’ll benefit by keeping in shape, making new friends, relieving stress, building life skills and by just having fun.
Let’s take a look at your options.
Intramural sports are both competitive and recreational. Organized and run by Campus REC staff, intramurals are open to all University students regardless of talent or experience. To even the playing field, some sports offer different divisions based upon a player’s skill level; and leagues can be found for coed, open league, Greek life, men and women.
Your participation can also go beyond just playing. Consider becoming a referee or student sport supervisor.
Club sports are more competitive and require a significant commitment. Managed and run by students, club sports can involve routine practices, scheduling of games, selecting a coach and fund raising. Games are played against other universities within a league that can include travel for national tournaments and championships.
Varsity sports is the next level. These are sanctioned by the NCAA and fall under the University’s athletics department.
