Athletic Training

What athletic trainers do.

Club sports athletes can take advantage of the University's licensed and certified athletic trainers, also known as AT's. Available free of charge, and only for students participating in Campus Recreation's club sports, they specialize in the management, prevention and recovery of injured athletes. This starts with the evaluation and diagnosis stage, accompanied by immediate emergency care (if necessary) and then the on-going treatment and rehabilitation phases.

Often times the first medical professional on the scene of an injury, athletic trainers collaborate with University medical doctors to provide a vital link with the injured athlete, physician and coach to ultimately help determine when the time is right to return to practice and competition.

How athletic trainers can assist.

Beyond a written evaluation and treatment plan, athletic trainers will work with you to help you reach your goals on a daily or weekly basis. At the University of Arizona, they also have access to specialized equipment to better treat your symptoms. Commonly AT's employ therapeutic exercise, manual therapy and cryotherapy along with a host of other therapeutic modalities to get athletes back to full activity.

Typical conditions worked on include muscle and tendon injuries, ligament sprains, concussions, wound care and fractures.

For non-club sports athletes, sports medicine services are available at Campus Health.
